S/Y
Kersti is a 36' yawl, designed by Gustav Plym. She is built entirely
in wood and is in excellent condition in spite of the fact that
she was constructed over 40 years ago. Her builder and single owner
Åke Johansson has cared for her minutely during her entire life-span.
Able
craftsmanship combined with the mode of construction contributes
to the impression of a boat with a finish as good as new. S/Y Kersti
has therefore, unlike most other wooden boats her age, never had
to be renovated. Her condition must be said to be truly unique.
Further, she has been continually modernized, new sails, oven, heater
and various instruments having been added over the years.
There
are five berths, a head, new LPG stove and oven (1998) and a gas-driven
waterborne heating system. S/Y Kersti has outside planking in African
mahogany on top of galvanized steel and laminated oakframes. The
deckhouse and the interior are built of Honduras mahogany. Teak
deck on marine plywood. The wooden masts carry galvanized (main
mast) and stainless steel (mizzen mast) rigging. Stem and keel are
built of oak. The ballast lead keel weighs approx. 6,700 lbs, making
up half of the boat's displacement.
S/Y
Kersti has been sailed exclusively on Lake Mälaren and in the Baltic,
the fresh and brackish water having been kind to her. The white-painted
hull has also served as an effective protection for the mahogany.
